Using HotLoop in a business

Running HotLoop at work? There are two ways to do it, and they aren’t either/or. Do it yourself on EmberNET, or have people who do this for a living roll it out for you, or both.

This page is about HotLoop IoT, Edge, Gateway and Edge Relay, which share the HotLoop Community License. HotLoop Flow is Apache-2.0, so a business runs it, changes it and ships it in a product without signing up for anything. The rollout path below still works for Flow if you’d rather somebody else did the work.

More than people expect, and that’s on purpose. Under the license, business use is any use by, for, or on behalf of a business or any other for-profit, sole proprietorships included, for any purpose. Purely internal counts. Charging nobody counts. Whether HotLoop is making you money or saving you money doesn’t enter into it.

The Community License on its own grants a business nothing. Business use goes through EmberNET, and only through EmberNET. Better to know that before you’ve built a plant’s worth of automation on “it’s only internal.” Licensing has the full legal text and a table of real situations.

EmberNET is the one channel for business use of those four products. Signing up is free, and using HotLoop there is free. There’s no license key to paste anywhere, because which product you run is just which image you pulled.

Have it rolled out for you: Fireball Industries

Section titled “Have it rolled out for you: Fireball Industries”

Fireball Industries are HotLoop’s Official Systems Integrators. If you’d rather not have your own people learn HotLoop on your own plant floor, on a live line, they’ll design it, install it and support it.

They’re also where support, SLAs and warranties come from, not EmberNET. The software itself comes as is, with no warranty, so if your plant needs somebody on the hook when a line goes down at 3 AM, that somebody is Fireball. EmberNET is where business use happens. Fireball Industries is who stands behind it.

Ask first. It’s a lot cheaper than finding out after a whole setup is built on a wrong guess. Email support@hotloop.io and we’ll tell you which side of the line you’re on. If it’s plainly a business, skip the email and go straight to EmberNET.
